Texas Youth Hunting Program: The Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) was founded in
partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1995 to consolidate youth
hunting outreach and information in Texas in a safe, responsible, mentored and professional
manner.
Texas Big Game Awards: “Hunting Equals Habitat” is the motto of the Texas Big Game Awards,
another TWA program co-sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Far from being
just a “big buck” contest, the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA) recognizes outstanding native
white-tailed deer, mule deer and pronghorn antelope and the landowners who actively manage
their land to encourage wildlife and habitat conservation. A new program added in 2001
are the Carter’s Country TBGA Wildlife Conservation College Scholarships, awarding $20,000 in college scholarships annually.
Conservation Legacy:
Promoting Sound
Stewardship
through Education
Texas Wildlife Association strives to provide our
membership, area youth, and the general public with quality educational
experiences offered through the Conservation Legacy
program. This program includes learning opportunities for adults
through TWA involvement in wildlife management field days and workshops
as well as through continued outdoor skill and educator trainings. The
Conservation Legacy program opportunities for youth include TWA’s
“classroom conservation” presentations and learning enrichment modules
that are currently offered to area schools as part of our new
Learning Across New Dimensions in Science (LANDS) youth
stewardship initiative.
