5 Day Colorado Trophy Elk Hunt

This is your chance for a hunt of a lifetime as Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Texas State Chair, Walt Isenhour of Lone Star Outfitters guides you on a hunt of a lifetime for trophy bull elk in Colorado. The 2,360 acre private ranch is truly an opportunity of a lifetime as it provides hunters with fair chase hunts for trophy, monster bull elk. Lone Star Outfitters offers over 50 years experience in hunting these big game animals and has focused on a prime area in southern Colorado noted for the high quality genetics and prime habitat. There are 2 Northwest drainages and 4 East/West Drainages providing ideal conditions. Owner, Walt Isenhour, has over 30 years experience pursuing trophy bull elk and has identified the area just north of the Vermejo Park and Hill Ranch as a key area for harvesting bulls of the highest quality. In 2004, hunters took 5 bulls scoring over 320 with the largest bull, a massive 7 x 7 scoring 363. Walt encourages hunters to pass on any bull scoring less than 320. Unit 851 is primarily private land with game management plans in place that insure the future of these trophy animals. Youth Permitted. Anyone born after January 1, 1949 must have a valid hunter safety card to purchase a license.
Hunt Details
The hunt is for one hunter and will take place in the fall of 2006. The exact dates are to be arranged with the outfitter. Either a rifle or archery hunt may be selected with two hunters per guide. This is a fair chase hunt and the ranch is not under high fence. The hunt is for 5 days with transportation to and from the ranch provided from the motel in Trinidad, CO. The hunter must purchase the elk hunting license, either over the counter or through a drawing depending on season selected. The hunt may be upgraded to include mule deer and/or bear for an additional fee. All trophy fees are included.
Lodging and Meals
Local lodging is being donated by Texas Wildlife Association, you will be on your own for meals. Upon confirmation of your hunt, lodging will be booked for you through Lone Star Outfitters at with a local hotel in Trinidad, Co. Colorado Springs is the closest airport, but it is recommended that you drive due to the high cost of shipping the meat (usually about 350-450 lbs).
