Texas voters overwhelmingly approve Proposition 11Texas voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 11 on the November 3 ballot by more than a four-to-one margin, thus ensuring Texas homeowners and property owners will be protected against the abuses of eminent domain. The Texas Wildlife Association was a strong supporter of the constitutional amendment. The ballot measure was approved by Texas voters, 81-19 percent, the largest margin among the 11 propositions. All 11 proposed constitutional amendments on the November 3 ballot were approved by voters.TWA reaffirms groundwater as a vested property rightThe Texas Wildlife Association has reaffirmed the ownership of groundwater by landowners as a vested real property right and has proclaimed its support for the local regulatory approach to groundwater management that recognizes groundwater as a property right. The policy statement approved by the TWA Executive Committee on September 9 provides the organization the foundation to pursue legislative and regulatory solutions to the important issue of groundwater as a property right, an issue that has been raised in the courts by some groundwater districts that have challenged this vested right. TWA will work with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and other associations and groups that share this philosophy to pursue this policy goal. TWA Conservation Legacy program recognized with environmental awardThe Texas Association for Environmental Education has named the Texas Wildlife Association's Conservation Legacy program as the winner of its 2009 Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award for an organization making an impact on environmental education in Texas. TWA's Conservation Legacy representatives will receive the award on Saturday, October 24, at a reception during the TAEE conference in Junction at the Texas Tech campus.
