TWA recognizes leaders with highest awards

The Texas Wildlife Association presented its three highest award recognitions on June 26 in San Antonio as part of WildLife 2010, the 25th Anniversary celebration of the organization. 

Charles M. Davidson of San Antonio received the 2010 TWA Friend of Wildlife Award. Charles M. Davidson -- 2010 TWA Friend of Wildlife AwardThe TWA Friend of Wildlife Award is presented to members of TWA that have made outstanding contributions to the Association and to wildlife habitat conservation. Davidson is a TWA Past President and an immediate Past President of the TWA Foundation, among his other leadership roles.

$10,000 college Natural Resource scholarships offered 

The Texas Wildlife Association Foundation (TWAF) and the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. (SALE) have joined forces to offer five $10,000 Natural Resource-Excellence in Education Scholarships in the fall of 2010. 

The scholarships will be awarded to five freshmen at Texas universities who are majoring in a natural resource-related field such as agricultural science, wildlife science, forestry, range science, etc.

Completed applications must be postmarked by September 14, 2010.

TWA Distance Learning earns Teachers' Choice Award

Berrien RESA has recognized the TWA Conservation Legacy Distance Learning program with a Teachers' Choice Award as one of the Best Content Providers for the2010 Teacher's Choice Award school year.

The Distance Learning program was one of three content providers to receive top votes in the "Best Gardens, Nature Preserves, and Parks" content category.

TWA Distance Learning programs, part of the L.A.N.D.S. Outreach effort, are delivered live via videoconferencing equipment in San Antonio to classrooms and other viewing sites across the state.  The programs are TEKS aligned, interactive, and include pre- and/or post materials for students.  The Distance Learning program is administered by TWA Conservation Legacy Assistant Kassi Scheffer.

"Quail Posts" webisodes offer interesting facts, insights  

The first four "Quail Posts" webisodes highlighting interesting details about quail habitat, quail behavior, and quail anatomy and physiology are now available for viewingBobwhite quail

The first round of 6-10 minute webisodes are hosted by Dr. Dale Rollins, TWA Director and Executive Director of the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch.  The posted webisodes are "Softball Habitat Quail Technique," "Sounds a Quail Makes," and "Getting to Know Your Quail, Parts I and II." 

The "Quail Posts" webisodes are co-produced by the Texas Wildlife Association. 

Look for additional "Quail Posts" webisodes hosted by the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and the King Ranch in the near future.
