The general mule deer season starts Nov. 17 in the Panhandle and Southwestern Panhandle and Nov. 23 in the Trans-Pecos. If you plan to hunt mule deer in Briscoe, Childress, Cottle, Floyd, Hall or Motley counties, there is a new experimental antler regulation. The outside spread of the main beams of a harvested mule deer must be at least 20 inches. The goal is to protect young bucks, and this decision was based on years of harvest data.
With the first sightings last week of iconic, endangered whooping cranes along the Texas coast, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding Texans to be on the lookout for these impressive birds as they move through the state.
