Field to Fork: Texas Wildlife Association to Partner with QDMA

Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) is proud to announce its collaboration with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) this hunting season in an effort to promote adult hunter recruitment in our great state. QDMA’s Field to Fork hunter recruitment program aims to focus on adults from non-hunting backgrounds and has expanded into several new states this year, including Texas.

The first Texas Field to Fork workshop will be December 6-9, 2018 at the Clear Fork Ranch near Albany, Texas.  For a nominal cost participants will have unique opportunities to be mentored by experts on fundamental subjects including firearm safety, shooting skills, hunting methods and strategies, game recovery, and field care of harvested game.  Advanced topics will include hunting ethics, the role of hunting in conservation, and processing and cooking wild game.  We will truly cover everything from going afield safely to enjoying delicious wild game dinners.  Additionally all participants will be earning their Hunter Education Certification in conjunction with the workshop.

In 2017, TWA hosted its first mentored hunt for adults as a result of interest from members who attended the Hunt to Table dinner in Austin featuring renowned chef Jesse Griffiths of Dai Due and Dai Due Taqueria.   In addition to the Texas Field to Fork workshop with QDMA, TWA will expand its Hunt to Table adult mentored hunt program this season by offering three events on private ranches with hunts for varied species of wild game. Modeled after TWA’s highly successful Texas Youth Hunting Program, these adult hunts will connect sustainable hunting practices to the knowledge, value, and appreciation of wild food sources.

TWA is proud to support continued efforts for adult hunter recruitment, retention and reengagement by assisting likeminded programs to promote our unique hunting heritage.
