The American Badger

The American Badger is the only species of badger in Texas and North America. They are distant cousins to hog badgers, ferret badgers, stink badgers and the more well-known European and honey badgers. They are characterized by their flat and wide body (2-3 feet long) covered with grayish brown hair, short legs and pointed head with small ears and black and white face stripes. They have very long front claws and sharp teeth.

Venomous Snakes

Texas is very rich in snake diversity with over 100 different species and subspecies of snake. However, only 15 of those are venomous. The first thing we need to identify is the term venomous. Venomous animals are often incorrectly referred to as poisonous, but there is a difference. An animal that injects venom, using something sharp like a stinger or teeth, is venomous. An animal that makes you sick when you eat it is poisonous.

Migration in Texas

Migration is the seasonal movement of animals from one place to another. Animals migrate for different reasons. As temperatures drop in winter, food availability may become scarce so they will migrate to a region with more food and warmer temperatures. Animals also migrate to find a mate and some migrate to have babies.
