Women of the Land

A program which combines information on land management with skill-based outdoor recreation in a venue that encourages women to become active land managers, develop and hone their management skills, and network with women of similar interests.

Registration fees vary depending on venue and focus and cover lodging, meals, and educational materials where applicable. Registrations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis and spots are limited – register now!

‘From the Ground Up’ Events

  • Introducing women from all backgrounds and levels of experience to the wild places and wild things that Texas has to offer is key to creating better land stewards.  From the Ground Up events create opportunities for women to develop skills, practices, and management tools to better understand the wild and natural world around them.  We welcome women from any age group and any demographic! You are sure to find your place with us and other women of the land.

‘Tools of Conservation’ Events

  • Aldo Leopold, the father of modern wildlife management published Game Management in 1933. In it he quotes “…game (wildlife) can be restored by the creative use of the same tools which have heretofore destroyed it- axe, cow, plow, fire, and gun.”  Each workshop will focus on one of the 5 management tools and will provide greater hands-on opportunities. Examples include; operating ranch equipment, wildlife harvest management,  building ranch improvements like rainwater harvester systems, rotational grazing systems, etc.

FALL 2026

Handgun 101

  • November 6, 2026
  • Buck and Doe's Mercantile, San Antonio TX

Join us for a starter course in handgun safety, complete a handgun 101 course led by certified instructors, and spend time at the indoor range at Buck and Doe’s Mercantile! This event is geared towards helping ladies of all handgun skill levels become safe and comfortable with firearms, learn more about what handgun best fits their body type and preference, and learn how to handle and store handguns both inside the home and in the field.

FALL 2026

Flyfishing 101

  • November 13, 2026
  • Rio Guadalupe Resort, New Braunfels

Experience the Guadalupe river this fall with Rio Anglers, Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited, and the Texas Wildlife Association! Whether you are a newbie to the flyfishing world or want to brush up on your casting skills, this workshop is one you won’t want to miss. Join like-minded ladies, mentors, fishing guides, and industry professionals as you are guided through casting practice, learn more about freshwater fisheries, trout stocking efforts, and end the day putting your skills to the test flyfishing on the banks of the Guadalupe river. No fly tackle…no worries! We will provide tackle for anyone who needs it.
